Massage Therapy As a Career

Have you been thinking of receiving massage therapy training? The interest in massage therapy, as well as its reputation as a respected healing form, has grown tremendously in the last several years. Years ago massage would bring up visions of questionable "massage parlors" but that is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. With the growing interest in natural forms of healing, massage schools teaching how to give a therapeutic massage are now showing up everywhere.

If you are thinking of making massage therapy a career, I would suggest you receive a number of massages from different therapists first. Get a feel for what kind of work feels best to you. Are you interested in massage therapy that is sports oriented or are you more interested in a more relaxing style? Take note of styles and types of techniques that you most resonate with. Most massage therapists, after working for some time, will bring their own blend of styles and techniques to the table. Therefore receiving massage therapy from seasoned massage therapists can teach you a great deal.

Chances are the style you received and liked will be taught in a school somewhere in your area. Explore the different massage therapy schools that are available. Take a look at the different styles they teach and how many hours of training they provide. Some will provide the minimum number of hours required by your state. Others will provide more extensive training. If your thinking of working in another state, check to see what their requirements are as every state is different.

It is also very common for massage therapists to continue to receive additional training once they have started to work. If your willing to leave your area , there are countless schools that provide short trainings that can even "certify" you in different styles that you can then incorporate into your own massage sessions. The great benefit of doing this, is not only does you massage continue to become better and more specialized, but it continues to make giving a massage more fun and interesting!

Once you choose a massage school that feels good to you, there is no doubt that your massage therapy training will be a truly memorable experience. The journey of attending classes can be a fun and inspiring experience. The training will include receiving work as you and you fellow students practice on each other. This is vital as you continue to experience what does and does not feel good and can receive feedback from the friend your practicing on. Very often a bond is created with the other students and your realization and respect for the gifts of massage therapy continues to deepen.
