Reduce The Appearance Of Cellulite With Body Massage Therapy

Most people are familiar with the unsightly effects that cellulite can bring; however, it is important to realize that while this condition may leave many people wanting to cover up, it does not pose any health problems. In addition to being very common, even among people who are fairly slender, cellulite can be extremely difficult to eliminate. Fortunately, massage therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for anyone who wants to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite is a condition that affects many people, especially women. While it is fairly uncommon among men, it is estimated that approximately 80% to 90% of adult women suffer with the embarrassing and undesirable effects of this condition. Many of these women struggle to diminish the familiar dimples and rippling that are so commonly associated with cellulite, but it is important to understand what causes this condition if you want to find an effective way to get rid of it. Cellulite is simply an accumulation of subcutaneous fat that lies directly beneath the connective tissue. As these fat deposits push against the connective tissue, the familiar dimpling appears on the surface of the skin. Obviously, the more excess fat, the more cellulite one will have; however, even people who are not overweight can be plagued with this condition. Cellulite is most commonly found in the abdomen, thighs and buttocks, but it can certainly be found in just about any other area of the body as well.

There can be a number of different reasons why one person develops cellulite and another one does not. For example, changes in one's metabolism can cause an increase in fat deposits which can make cellulite much more prominent. Additionally, hormones or changes in the connective tissue can also play a significant role. One common problem is the result of rollercoaster dieting. Losing weight, then putting it back on, only to lose the weight again creates a vicious cycle. This cycle can cause the metabolism to slow and for the body to begin to store excess fat, which of course, adds to more cellulite. Another cause for cellulite is simple genetics; some people just seem to be more prone to cellulite than others.

Regardless of the reasons why someone has developed cellulite, there is an effective treatment method that can help reduce its visible effects. Massage therapy has been shown to be extremely effective in reducing the visible appearance of cellulite. Massage can be used to gently break up the fat deposits in order to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Gentle, yet firm, circular strokes as well as kneading trouble areas can help break up and dislodge the troublesome fat cells. As an added bonus, using rosemary aromatherapy during these massage sessions can help not only eliminate cellulite, but also varicose veins.
